In this season of waiting, let us heed the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, who reminds us to keep watch, for we do not know the day or hour of His return.
Matthew 24:42-46
"Therefore, keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come... So, you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him... It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns."
This passage resonates deeply with me, especially as we navigate the days that seem to stretch on indefinitely while we wait for the glorious return of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
During these prolonged days, losing hope in our assigned tasks is too easy. Perhaps our assignment is to shine the love of Christ in a world engulfed by darkness. Maybe we're called to uplift a community of believers who struggle to receive the encouragement we offer through the Word of God. Or perhaps our assignment is to stand as the sole ambassador for Christ within our families, entrusted with the vital task of interceding and drawing them into the Kingdom of God, even as we await the answered prayer of salvation.
Some of us may find ourselves appointed as the only beacon of Christ's light in our workplaces, where self-promotion and negativity abound. Still, some may be called to pray for the healing of the sick who have yet to experience restoration. And still, others may be tasked with breathing the life-giving words of Jesus into congregations that have grown weary and discouraged.
Regardless of our specific assignments, this scripture makes one abundantly clear: we are called to persevere in faith and complete the good work that Jesus entrusted us. The essence of our assignment lies not in the worldly outcomes we may see, but rather in our steadfast obedience to the call of Christ.
While we do not know the day or hour of His return, let us approach each day with unwavering dedication, serving our King with the anticipation that today could be the day He returns for His beloved.
May we never grow weary in doing good, but instead, let us serve with renewed zeal, knowing that every moment is an opportunity to honor our King.
Every word true, we are preparing for his return.
